Black tie guide: the perfect look for prom night | M&S + Cuts for Him

I cannot believe we are approaching the half way mark for 2018. I mean it feels like only a few weeks ago when everyone was talking about New Year’s Resolutions and how they were going to hit all their targets. I for one created very ambitious targets and things I want to achieve by the end of 2018. I have to say I am not doing so bad in some areas whilst other areas leave a lot to be desired.

Anyway, on the plus side, we have entered the season of celebrations, events, and occasions. Warmer weather temperatures are usually a good indication that events and occasions such as weddings, horse racing, and proms are about to kick off. Whatever the occasion, it is important to get the outfit right. The last thing you want to do is show up at a pool party in a Tuxedo, or show up at a black-tie event wearing a very colourful suit. Sometimes the name of the event gives a clue as to how to dress. However, the challenge of how to put the look together still remain. You honestly do not want to stick out for the wrong reasons at an event but rather, turn heads.

The look and style I will be focusing on today is the black tie or formal look. I have partnered with Marks and Spencer’s tailoring to show you how to put together a Prom worthy attire for men, using a tuxedo.

For one reason or another, a lot of people I have spoken to shy away from formal wear such as tuxedos. One of the Continue reading Black tie guide: the perfect look for prom night | M&S + Cuts for Him

Fashion for the weekend | Cuts for Him + Ted Baker

There are many reasons to look forward to the weekend. In most cases, people just want to rest after the working week. It sometimes feels like we are stuck in a perpetual cycle were we become ecstatic on a Friday and then somehow get into a downward spiral of emotions the minute its Sunday evening. For your regular nine-to-fivers, the weekend is the best thing that was ever invented. As a full-time content creator and blogger, there is really no true concept of a weekend. I tend to work throughout the 7 day week with no distinction between days. However, I still get excited about the weekend. In my case, it’s most likely a physiological thing. Except I am going away, the weekend does not really have an impact on me.

That brings me to the purpose of this article, weekend getaways and dressing up for the weekend. As someone who wears a lot of formal or should I say smart attires, it is always a good thing to take things down a notch without compromising on my style. Ted Baker has always been one of my favorite brands when it comes prints, fabric type and their use of colour. As someone who Continue reading Fashion for the weekend | Cuts for Him + Ted Baker

Cuts for him meets GQ man of the year SA Menzi Mcunu

It all happened so fast. One day I was being introduced to him and the next I was shooting with GQ Man of the year, Menzi Mcunu.

My trip to Cape Town was meant to be purely holiday but I have come to realize that as a travel blogger, I can never truly be on holiday. I mean the whole purpose of traveling is to create content and share a thought or two about the places and people you come across, right? Lol

I can categorically say that very little gives me more pleasure when traveling than linking up with other creatives to collaborate. The buzz it gives me is next to none. The whole of Cape Town is filled with picturesque locations which makes it a blogger dream city. So, when Menzi reached out to me a day before to say he was arranging a shoot, I was so on it. All I had to do was show up and smile for the camera.

We got in a taxi and headed to parliament street where we were meant to meet Menzi. In true gentleman style, Menzi made me feel welcomed the minute we shook hands. The Cobra sports car literally arrived 5 minutes after we got there and it was shoot time. Menzi had organized the whole shoot from picking a location to hiring a photographer. It was so much fun from start to end.

Fashion as an art form Cuts for Him meets Yanga Madlala

Yanga Yaya Madlala is a Cape Town based performing artist and creative. He is one of those people I refer to as the new voice and face of the South African creative industry. I have been a huge fan of South African creativity in the form of music, fashion, and arts and culture for some time now.

During our first meeting in March when I was in Cape Town, I couldn’t wait to tell Yanga how inspired I am with young South Africans like himself and a few others. The likes of Trevor Stuurman, Kwena Baloyi, and the founding members of I see a different you have always made me curious, to say the least. The imagery always tells a compelling and authentic story of their own. They present their life and culture in such a way that it sometimes forces me to dig out my authentic self. Trevor recently worked with supermodel Naomi Campbel through Arise Africa which in itself show the level of creativity of this young South Africans I speak of.

Anyway, back to my story. When Yanga and I decided to do a shoot together, we had no idea the form the shoot should take. We had no theme nor concept but we knew we wanted to create something. I knew his fashion style was different to Continue reading Fashion as an art form Cuts for Him meets Yanga Madlala
