Best of 2017 in picture | Cuts for Him

And just like that, 2017 is gone. I can still remember vividly every key moment of my work on Cuts for Him like it just happened. From my trips to the middle east to having a key meeting with one of my favorite grooming brand, Elemis. The sketches I make before a shoot, to waiting for the golden hour to shoot the perfect pictures. Oh, the memories. 2017 was a great year for Cuts for Him. I may need a couple of months to properly label 2017 but I know for sure that it was a key year in the life of Cuts for Him. A year of creative expansion and opened opportunities. Opportunities to work with bigger brands and better creatives.

To help me articulate, here are photos of key work and places I went to in 2017:

The above shot was taken for a piece I did on identity. The piece itself is called Cultured in Culture and can be found here if you fancy reading it. One of my most personal pieces.

Like the first photo, this one just above is a personal one. In fact, it started the Cultured in Culture series. This series looks at being born in one culture but growing up in another. The crossroads these cultures brought into my life. Have a read here.

The above shot was in fact shot in 2016 but only released in 2017. It was a shoot I did exploring 1920 and Continue reading Best of 2017 in picture | Cuts for Him

Cultured in Culture | London | Cuts for Him

CULTURE! The Oxford dictionary defined it as “The arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively” and the Cambridge dictionary puts it as “The way of life, especially the general customs and beliefs, of a particular group of people at a particular time”.  People identify themselves along cultural lines and strong bonds are formed through generations. Culture is as old as humanity itself but has been misunderstood or misrepresented.

It is usually said that a person will not know where they are going unless they know where they come from. This to my interpretation fits the bill for knowing your heritage culture. I also believe that every group of people practice some form of culture possibly passed down to them. From the food we eat to the clothes we wear, from art and architecture to the songs we listen to, from things relatively insignificant as a gift to more important things such as a language all contribute to defining our culture.

So it always baffles me when people try to define a person using one of the above or even worst, their skin colour. Come to think of it, skin colour is one of the most used criteria to pigeonhole Continue reading Cultured in Culture | London | Cuts for Him

Fashion and Function meets to create style | Cuts for Him

Hello everyone. Just thought I put together a super quick post on a look I think is both practical yet stays true to form as far as fashion is concerned.

It is a very simply look brought to life by a red down and feather Gilet from Marks and Spencer.  As you can see, the gilet has all the hallmarks of a casual piece which makes it even more interesting to pair with a smart piece like a suit.

The main purpose of this look is to keep me warm whilst staying stylish. This works well when I want Continue reading Fashion and Function meets to create style | Cuts for Him

Rolling with coat season | Cuts for Him + Maketh the Man

Ok I know every one of you know that coats are an essential part of a man’s wardrobe during the winter season. When it comes to layering, it does not get better than a good ol coat. I mean it’s not rocket science to see the need to invest in one or in my case, seven overcoats. You just need to step outside on a typical winter’s day to find out why they are Apart from the practical purpose of keeping you warm coats also play an important role where style is concerned. One thing I always say is that if you going to wear one, you might as well style it out and make it work for you sartorially.

There are three main ways to rock a coat. The first is to simply hang it over your shoulder and carry it with style. Carrying your coat over your shoulder is stylish but does not do much in terms of its Continue reading Rolling with coat season | Cuts for Him + Maketh the Man
