C F Him colour blocking in Barcelona

It’s the weekend again and I am sitting here wondering where did the week go. In fact, the apt question would be where did the month go seeing that it’s the last weekend of January already.

This time last weekend, I was in Barcelona exploring another passion of mine, photography. I will be sharing with you some of the work I did in Barcelona and of course do an article to review the city itself based on my experiences very soon. However, i thought i should share with you all this look which is a good example of colour blocking. As someone who express himself visually, I truly enjoy being behind the camera as it grants me the freedom (amongst other things) to work with an idea from it conceptual stages to the end when I deliver it as a finished product. Walking into 2016 like… Confident, Poised and Intentional

I don’t know about you but for me 2016 is the year of great breakthrough and consolidation. It is the year of more growth and maturity with the gifts God gave me.

For starters, I fully intend to raise my style game creatively to give you all a fresh and inspired perspective of C F Him. The idea for this year is to be confident, poised and intentional with my work on all fronts.

But before I get carried away with laying out my plans for 2016, I would like to use this opportunity to reflect on and share my appreciation for my family and friends who  supported me through 2015 on this journey. I am thankful to everyone of you for your contributions and encouragement in making this blog a success. In all this, there are two people I would like to say a special thank you to from the bottom of my heart, Charles (August child) and Rita (Colson Style theory) you have both been inspirational and I thank God for you. Charles your skills behind the camera are unparalleled and it is amazing how despite your busy schedule you always find time to do shoots with me. You add so much value beyond just clicking away. And yes, thanks for the countless tips on capturing the perfect image. Rita you have always been like my muse who I constantly draw inspiration from. Your creative eye and great sense of style has taught me a lot. I can always count on you for a healthy debate on my ideas and how to implement them. I sometimes feel as if I can’t put out my creative ideas unless I pass them through you first. I truly thank God for the two of you and I look forward to more amazing collaborations and most of all, a deeper friendship.

2015 was a year of sewing the right seed into C F Him and watching it grow. It has been a year that has taught me a lot  In many respects this blog and all that has come with it has been a full time job, staying up all night editing photos, planning style concepts and running and updating social media like my Instagram page. The truth is that I have enjoyed every bit of it barring a a few knockbacks and reality checks which every creative person needs for validation and perspective. I thoroughly enjoy the feedback and interaction I get from you the followers. Your views inspire me to work harder and better. So here is a big thank you for your support last year. Without you, C F Him would not be where it is now

So back to 2016 , for me my plans for the year can be summed up in two words. Growth and Maturity. This year is all about pushing boundaries and limits as far as style creativity is concerned. The plan is to also travel more so I can bring you all along with me though my blog, be more fit so I can share fitness tips and immerse myself into culture to create a discuss right here. I hope you are as excited as I am as I look forward to sharing it all with you.

Before I sign out, let me describe the look in the photos. I am sure you will have noticed the unconventional nature of the dress code, which is precisely my intention. This look is not about playing safe or conforming to the rules.

The aim is to take a pinstripe business suit to create a non-business look. Just in case you missed it, I did a post on business look called That business look.  In this piece I’ve changed  a couple of items from that look to create a brand new look. Up-cycling at its finest and most chic..

I swapped  the more formal Paul smith Loafers for a pair of military styled boots from Massimo Dutti. To highlight the boots, I rolled up my trouser slightly which removes any form of formality. With the green tie and green and white polka dot pocket square  and my mustard/yellow coat I make sure I get noticed by everyone. I mean the colour is vibrant and it is a statement piece by itself. I wore this beautiful coat over my shoulders to give the look that little extra edge.

Like I said, this year is all about being bold, confident, poised and intentional and I believe this looks captures that beautifully.

Happy new year everyone. Here’s wishing you all a wonderful 2016. Please continue to share my site with your loved ones and don’t forget to subscribe to my Instagram @cutsforhim and twitter @cutsforhim accounts.

Dress as you wish to be addressed – Mazda, the spirit of Sprezzatura

I remember saying in a previous blog post that one should only dress as you wish to be addressed. I personally believe that your style is a little window to what’s going on on the inside of you. I also happen to believe that in a world where you are more likely to be judged or compartmentalised by your appearance, one aught to be sure of what image you want to portray through the way you dress.

About a month ago, I did a collaboration with the Japanese car company Mazda on a piece that is part of a series called SprezzaturaSprezzatura celebrate the art of individual style involved fashion industry insiders such as stylist, designers, curators and bloggers. “Sprezzatura is the attitude to your own style where you are relaxed in taking a slightly different approach to the perceived norm” as expressed by the movement. This article is the last of the three-part series I started some weeks ago called “Sunday best”. If you missed the first two, may I encourage you to go back and read first one here and  then the second here so the whole piece makes more sense.

Last week, I did a short video piece for a car company (which I hope to share with you all when it comes out) and one of the questions I was asked was “what does style mean to you?”. This question is not unusual to me as a style blogger but for the first time, I was forced to think deeper what style means to me as I face the camera to give my take on this. I gave my usual answer which is that my style is a way of bringing out some of what’s on the inside for the world to see.

My style is purposeful and is driven by some of my character traits and evidently subtly challenges everyone around on how I wish to be addressed and related to without me having to say a word. This peaked the curiosity of my interviewer as his eyes narrowed and gently nodded in affirmation as if to say “I have not heard anyone put it this way before so please tell me more”.

Before I knew it, I found myself talking about temples and their significance from a Christian perspective. A temple as I understand is a place of worship to God which automatically make one very important. A brick and mortar temple is distinctive and different when compared to other buildings. It is cared for and looked after very well by cleaning and decorating it beautifully as is evident with cathedrals. The physical structure of a temple is big, bold and has intricate details not usually found on other buildings. In other words, a temple is purposefully built with precision and care to such an extent that you don’t need to be told it is a temple. A temple stands out.

I guess you know what I am going to say next right? Yep, I compared my style to the temple scenario. In fact, Continue reading Sunday best – 3
