Zenith Hotel Bangkok, Home away from home | Cuts for Him

I cannot believe my trip to Bangkok is all but behind me now. I remember getting on my BA flight in London and buzzing with excitement. I couldn’t wait to see this wonderful city I have read and watched many movies as far back as I could remember. The trip itself was made at the spur of the moment without detailed plans. I just remember wanting to visit Thailand and Vietnam so badly and next thing I knew, I was in Bangkok.

The taxi drive from the airport felt quite relaxing as we drove past many tall buildings with huge billboards everywhere. We were heading to Zenith hotel where I was to spend Continue reading Zenith Hotel Bangkok, Home away from home | Cuts for Him

Cultured in Culture – The Thailand and Vietnam experience

Cultured in Culture is a short series I started last year when I visited Freetown, Sierra Leone. In all honesty, it was meant to be a one-off piece that turned into a mini-series. I would encourage you to catch up on the last two here and here.

As a stylist, I have always tried to infuse different cultures into how I put an outfit together. Cultured in Culture also borrows heavily from places and the people in those places. I mean, culture is mostly about people right?

For someone who was born into one culture and partly raised in another, I have always been intrigued by other people’s way of life. I remember watching action movies based on or set in Thailand such as Kickboxer, Above the law, Police story and much more like them. I can unequivocally say now that I had no business watching those movies at that age. More recent movies such as Bangkok dangerous and the cult-classic Ong-Bak all let my imagination run wild.

Apart from movies, I have always had the Continue reading Cultured in Culture – The Thailand and Vietnam experience

Dubai, the city of gold – Day 1 | Cuts for Him

I am not even going to lie, I was a bit apprehensive the minute I got off BA0109 from London to Dubai last week Thursday. I would like to think of myself as an experienced traveller and have heard many a story about Dubai. Most of the stories have been positive and have been how the Emiratis have managed to turn a piece of dry land into an oasis of wealth and prosperity, albeit with diminishing oil reserves. However, I have also heard stories from cultural sensitive issues such as how to behave in public, to what may sound ridiculous to the average westerner which I won’t go into. Sometimes it’s just a little bit hard to know what is fact and what is Chinese whispers.

As an African and a world citizen, I know what it means to respect other people’s culture, not the least because I want mine to be respected in return. I always say to people, Continue reading Dubai, the city of gold – Day 1 | Cuts for Him

Sun is out, shorts out | African wax print style

Shorts are essential during the hotter period of the year. I personally think every guy needs to invest in at least a couple of shorts whether it is to take with you on that beach holiday or just to wear over the weekend. I mean who wants to be stuck in a pair of thick jeans eh during the summer anyway?

Short: my mum | Trainers – Suitsupply | T Shirt – Zara | Glasses – Garett Leight | Watch – Timex

Thanks to my mum, my collection of shorts has grown by one. I am particularly happy with the new addition as it is West African wax print cotton. My mother gifted these pair of trouser to me three years ago and they were long trouser.

I absolutely love the green and brown colours of the prints but was not keen on the fact that they were long. The print Continue reading Sun is out, shorts out | African wax print style
